- Lignite
- Sub-Bituminous
- Bituminous
- Anthracite
How do we obtain it?
We get coal from underground seams. Seams are layers of coal that are thick enough to be profitably mined. Obtaining coal can be done in 2 basic forms, surface mining, or deep underground mining. |

9 out of 10 tons of coal in the U.S are used to generate electricity.
Fun Fact: Texas is the top coal-consuming state. It uses about 100 million tons each year.
